DIY Vegan Mayo In A Blender

March 27, 2019

What if I told you that you could make your own vegan mayo for less than $2! I know, insane! But it's true, mayo is so easy to make and you can portion out how much you'd like to make and with the flavor that works best for you. If you're a mayo fiend like myself you know how expensive it can get to buy mayo for your kitchen, especially vegan mayos. My favorite brand is Vegenaise but that runs me $8 for a jar which if you're trying to stay on budget like myself then you don't want to be spending that much on mayonnaise! Well friends I'm here to save you loads of paper by showing you how easy this comes together in a blender.

Mayonnaise is created by combining a couple of ingredients with oil and it creates this white fluffy content that can be used for dressings or for spreading on your favorite sandwich. Most recipes call for an immersion blender... but friends you know that I like to yours and my life easy peesy lemon squeezy, and today is nothing short of that! I'm using my regular very cheap blender that I purchased from Target for $20 to bring us mayo loving fans the easiest and even cheaper vegan mayo. So pull out your blenders and let's get to mayonnaise-ing!

P.S. Keep in mind that you will need to play around with these flavors; especially with oils and milks, in order to get to the flavor that you will most enjoy. This won't taste like your Hellman's mayo, but it can definitely be adjusted to a mayo of your liking with just a couple of changes. So play around with this recipe and figure out what ingredients work best for your taste and then continue to make this recipes to save you loads of money throughout the year.

3. If mayo is too runny add more oil until it thickens and if it is too thick add more milk to thin out mayo. Mayo is complete add to a jar and keep in fridge for no longer than 5 days.

RECIPE NOTES:

  • This can be easily switched with flavor by adding simple ingredients like cilantro, garlic, or sriracha to create an aioli or flavored mayo.

  • Do not use any oils with a strong flavor as it will ruin the taste of your mayo. I.e. olive oil!

  • Play around with different nondairy milks and oils to get the best taste for your tongue palette.
